Operates the paging systems Operates the Switchboard Maintains current Patient Directory Assumes responsibility for personal and work related activities Good communication skills A good understanding of the English language, both written and spoken Able to work quickly and accurately Able to help customers in a friendly and efficient manner Keyboard skills are an advantage, as is proficiency in a second language for some positions Advanced computer application skills required Basic understanding of telecommunication equipment and ability to troubleshoot/resolve issues Ability to express courtesy, tact and discretion Ability to establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the work at all levels with a focus on quality service to internal and external customers Operate telephone switchboards and consoles to connect, hold, transfer and disconnect telephone calls Determine the nature of inquiries and provide general information Connect calls to the required extension, re-direct them to another number or place them in a waiting queue if the desired number is busy Provide external connections for staff and answer internal queries directed to the switchboard Responsible for carrying out code response protocols and overhead announcements Carry out other clerical, secretarial or receptionist duties as required (e.
g.
keyboarding and data entry, charge entry, or photocopying) during quieter periods on the switchboard Provide information to customers who call and, if necessary, check computerized listings of phone numbers Answer queries from callers about the Hospital or patient areas Provide connections to mobile phones Deals with problem situations in a professional manner and adequately communicates pertinent information, so an overall work environment is created that lends itself to the best interest of the Hospital department personnel Trains other operators on Hospital telephone switchboard to assist callers to make telephone connections and to relay incoming, outgoing and interoffice calls Manages scheduling employees and ensuring coverage during normal business hours and on-call support as required Maintains a centralized source for information enabling operators to cover outages, emergencies and disasters, which effect disruption of telephone service to the hospital Performs QA studies and maintains logs to facilitate the best customer service practices in regard to the department Assists with system administration, system security, system configuration, issue resolution, data mining, testing activities and project implementations under the direction of IS Leadership and Project Manager AMC reserves the right to revise and/or change job duties and responsibilities Experience/
Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent PBX or customer service experience preferred.
