SUMMARY As an OSP (Outside Plant) Designer at Five Star, you will be responsible for planning, designing, documenting, and permitting the telecommunications networks that connect our world.
You will work as a member of our Engineering and professional services team, producing high-quality deliverables for underground and aerial applications, including FTTx (Fiber-to-the-X) build-outs.
You will play a pivotal role in bringing our groundbreaking ideas to life, working closely with cross-functional teams to conceptualize, design, and develop innovative solutions that address real-world challenges in the Utilities industry.
From initial concept to final product, you will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions and see your ideas come to fruition.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Collaborate with project managers, construction coordinators, survey, and other members of the engineering team to plan and develop new utility infrastructure deployments.
Produce engineering designs and detailed drawings for utility projects, including fiber optics, electric distributions, natural gas distribution, and water services.
Plan and design new FTTx fiber optic cable network deployments, including fiber to the home (FTTH) designs.
Joint Use Make-Ready design, pole loading analysis, and permitting.
Develop detailed engineering documentation and permit applications.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, local regulations, and best practices.
Collaborate with project managers to develop project budgets, schedules, and resource requirements, and track progress against milestones.
Stay current with relevant standards and technologies to ensure designs comply with best practices and industry standards.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of Five Star's utility engineering processes and methodologies.
Requirements:
Certificate or associate degree in engineering, architecture, geography, GIS, or related field.
Experience in producing technical plans and drawings for engineering projects.
Experience in drafting, design, or engineering in a utility or engineering environment.
Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to utility design and permits.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze and interpret data.
Proficient with Adobe Pro, Bluebeam, and Google Earth.
Strong Proficiency in ArcGIS, QGIS, AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, and other similar software.
Experience with various FTTH Architectures and Automated Fiber Optic Network Design.
Experience with utility owner software including ArcGIS PRO, 3GIS, ARAMIS, IQGeo, Magellan, PRISM, OGIS, SmallWorld and STORMS.
Joint Use knowledge including NESC Code and Make-Ready Engineering.
Pole Loading Analysis, including use of O-Calc, SpidaCalc, PoleForeman and PLS-CADD.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
